Description:
Mustache Red is--rather, it was--a 3D platformer in which the
hero, the large-mustachioed guy, explored
western-themed levels while using his shovel to bash the game's
25 enemies over the head, and his dynamite to blow open new
passages. Mustache Red's design also allowed the player
to re-enter previous stages. Or would've.
The original working
title of this game was "Mustache Red" for a time, before it was
changed to "Rattlesnake Red". The unconfirmed reason for
Mustache's cancellation was because after a year and a
considerable amount of money spent, a few unresolved programming
issues remained so Acclaim decided to can it.
According to inside sources, the first level was completed, with
several other levels near completion without enemies.
Another
unconfirmed rumor is that the same development team started
working on a Tazmanian Devil game utilizing the same data
(notice that the coyote's in the screenshot above look similar
to Wile E. Coyote). The game was pitched but WB did not
pursue the Tazmanian Devil version of the game. When the project
was shelved, the team moved on to creating an off-road racer
with the working title "Baja.
