Description:
On October 25, 1999, Interplay confirmed A PlayStation version of BioWare's immensely popular Baldur's Gate has been in the works since the release of the PC outing at the beginning of the year.

"It uses exactly the same view as the original" said the spokesperson. "It's a huge game, and will ship on multiple discs."

However, on March 29, 2000, the project was officially shelved. Interplay admitted that the project was "on hold" and "under serious consideration". UK developer RuneCraft was handling the port. "They have to prove to us that they can deliver the game," said an Interplay spokesman this morning. "It was going to ship on five discs, and as you can imagine that's going to cost a fortune." Code exists at the publisher's UK offices that has playable characters in rendered environments, but the inside line is that this is never going to see the light of day. Bad news for RPG fans.

Bad news indeed. The rumor that it wasn't finished was because of company politics and the fact that Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance for PlayStation 2 version had been released. Any true fan of Baldur's Gate knows that Dark Alliance is not a true RPG and is regarded as inferior compared to the original Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2 for the PC.
