Tantalus was originally formed in January
1994 as Tantalus Entertainment. It comprised a core team of experienced
game development personnel from Beam Software (now Infogrames Melbourne
House).
Tantalus was formed to push the emerging boundaries of 3D technology.
Our first product was 'Stargate' for the Super Nintendo before moving to
the new 3D platforms such as Sony PlayStation.
After some false starts on originals (aren't publishers wonderful?), we
found our feet developing conversions for some big name publishers. So
much so that we found ourselves doing so many we couldn't stop!
During this time we formed an (unholy) alliance with Perfect
Entertainment Ltd, a UK company famous for its Discworld PC CD-ROM
adventure. Perfect provided us with a European presence while Tantalus
provided it with technology and assistance.
In mid-1998, this partnership was terminated and Perfect UK soon bit the
dust. Tantalus emerged as Tantalus Interactive and went on to develop
the South Park Rally game for Acclaim, based on a demo we whipped up
during our lunchtimes.
In the meantime, we have produced some equine adventures which can be
found in our products section.
2000 was a transitional year for the industry as the new platforms
slowly began to take shape and be released. |
